Hello and welcome. I'm Mike Monaghan. I'm English and based in Amsterdam, and I want to tell a little about me and this blog.
In July of 2012 I discovered "Live Storytelling", in a small venue in Amsterdam. This changed my life and gave me a direction to follow that was completely in tune with my passions and longings. (My story up to that point you can read here.)
So from this point on I call myself a minstrel/troubadour/singer-songwriter/storyteller/poet and this blog is my platform, from which to share with you my stories and songs and poems, my travels through Europe in 2013, the people I meet and their stories, and the experiences I have in growing as a storyteller and performer and making the ALBUMS of my songs.
THE DREAM
It's not often that someone gets the chance to follow their dream entirely, and I count myself incredibly fortunate to be able to do just that at this time of my life. My dream is stated above: "To do what I want, where I want, when I want". It's not asking much, but at the same time it's asking everything. With the support of a very good friend who believes in my songwriting, I've secured the financial means to live this dream without the need to spend my time working for a living... for one year.
My goal for this year (2013) is to travel Europe in a camperbus, doing what I want (singing, writing, meeting people, experiencing new places and discovering new opportunities), where I want (wherever the road takes me), when I want (driven by passion, inspiration, motivation and opportunity).
I am living my dream, and I want to share this dream with everyone who is interested or covets the same dream. During the last few months of 2012 I'm writing songs for my first album, gathering experience as a storyteller, making the album, and organizing everything for a year of travel in order to bring the album, songs, stories and art-of-storytelling to as many people as I can.
In March 2013 the real "travel part" of the adventure begins. I will be documenting everything in Word, Music, Photo and Video. I invite you to join me on this adventure, to feel inspired by my experiences and stories, to travel with me in your heart and imagination... and you can do that by following me on this blog, on YouTube , on Facebook and on Hubpages - and if we're both lucky, we may get to meet each other in person along the way.
